Plenty of old folks living in ex-USSR states who prefer the times of Krushchev/Brezhnev to to 90's of Gorbachev or even current times.

Problem is its impossible to know if these systems would have failed without intervention because there was STRONG intervention and there is a LOT of oligarchs and countries with the power, means and motive to make sure that these systems fail.

I've been to Moldova within the last year. As well as Ukraine, Romania & Bulgaria. Some older generations prefer the communist times because they had the basic necessitates provided for them. Food, some basic agricultural job, life was 'ok' because at least they were fed and had a little bit of vodka at the end of the day. They prefer the USSR because what came after, the vacuum that was left by such a failed economic system is still not filled. The state in Moldova relies on milking it's citizens. There are overbearing bureaucratic laws and regulations only existent to create state jobs and fund the state, a remnant of communism idelogy. Many people go to western European nations and work there only to come back and be milked by the state. For example it costs over a 1000 dollars in Moldova to get your drivers licences because of all of the regulatory hoops meanwhile here in the states i got mine under 100 dollars. The GDP/capita there is like 3.2k so imagine 1/3 of your earnings having to go towards being able to just drive?

Eastern Europe was worse under the Tsar though. It isn't like socialism destroyed some society or that there was something great before it. Socialism put serfs in space though lol.

Maybe for some. My great grand father had a small store and a little bit of land, they were okay. Until the communist came after WW2 and shipped him and his family, including my grandmother to Siberia to starve and beg for bread slaving away in sub 30 degree Celsius weather.
