Well, Republicans seem to have selectively short memories but that really doesn't matter since they are going to vote for Trump regardless.
Independents, on the other hand, are sort of a mixed bag. There are very few ACTUAL independents. Most independents are people are are embarrassed about their party and they typically vote for a single party. Santara is a good example of that because he's a Libertarian but wouldn't be caught dead voting Democrat. The rest are mostly ignorant voters who don't follow politics. Given that these people aren't engaged NOW, I find it hard to believe that they will suddenly be ready to vote in November and use impeachment as a justification for their vote.
Really, what this election boils down to, is the Democratic base. Will they actually turn out? Or will they fall into this false narrative that Biden and Trump are the "same." Democrats win when they are energized...they just have no sense of duty to vote most of the time because they are privileged shit lords.
I'm an independent. I will vote for Yang if he somehow is the dem nominee. I will vote against Bernie if he is. I've never cared enough to actually go vote until now. You know what happened? Trump increased political engagement.
Impeachment is just another in a long line of media hysteria against Trump. It won't be the only justification. The left has gone off the deep end on cultural issues. Trust in academia is slipping fast.
Ignore Independents at your own risk. I've considered voting Trump against anyone other than Yang for cultural and academic issues but I'm not there yet.
