Yes, surely this will solve the problem. I'm shocked we didn't think about this years ago.

As we cross the threshold into banning websites that we don't like, I'm sure our beloved power brokers will handle the additional authority responsibly.

If you think having public echo chambers encouraging mass murder is not a problem we can agree to disagree.

8chan is a nest for pieces of shit posting terrible xenophobic stuff up to manifestos arguing about killing dozens of innocents
Cloudflare didn't ban anyone but just cut the link, losing money in the process.

It hasn't been banned. Cloudflare just no longer want them as a customer.

At its most basic, 8chan is a less regulated 4chan that doesn't pull shit down unless they're legally mandated to do so.

Cloudfare is making an editorial decision as a quasi utility that a free speech website shouldn't exist. Would it be ok for an internet provider to do the same thing?

Too phrase it slightly differently, would eliminating 8chan in any significant way decrease the number of mass shootings? If not, what exactly are we trying to accomplish? If yes, how?

had you read their statement, you'd realise that they are well aware this will NOT solve the problem altogether, and that they did not make that decision lightly.

just some very basic reading comprehension and the tiniest bit of effort could help you to not look like a completely ignorant asshat with every single post you make...

The scant research there has been on deplatforming shows that it does have an effect: http://comp.social.gatech.edu/papers/cscw18-chand-hate.pdf

8 CONCLUSION

In this paper, we studied the 2015 ban of two hate communities on Reddit, r/fatpeoplehate andr/CoonTown. Looking at the causal effects of the ban on both participating users and affected com-munities, we found that the ban served a number of useful purposes for Reddit. Users participatingin the banned subreddits either left the site or (for those who remained) dramatically reducedtheir hate speech usage. Communities that inherited the displaced activity of these users did notsuffer from an increase in hate speech. While the philosophical issues surrounding moderation (andbanning specifically) are complex, the present work seeks to inform the discussion with results onthe efficacy of banning deviant hate groups from internet platforms.
