Regardless of who takes office, America has made a sport out of finding ways to get things as cheap as possible. This behavior definitely puts pressure on us to keep manufacturing ties with China and India among others. I don’t see any reason to believe the U.S. would suddenly make major changes to the equation by putting domestic product first and making drastic efforts to reduce import needs

its indeed a tricky game the best option imo would be to make prices competing so if someone wants to operate in the usa they can while also keeping overseas at somewhat of an equal price so we dont have major shortages when the supply chain gets disrupted. even that would cause an increase on all goods in the long run and upset many but would make us a lot less reliant on other countries.

I heard a lot about Facebook and Twitter putting their thumbs on the scale in 2020. That was one of the "stolen election" talking points... for people who didn't want to go full MyPillow guy/Alex Jones.

But Twitter is now run by a billionaire who has donated 100+ million for Trump to win, appears at his rallies, created a PAC to try to generate some campaign ground game, and runs a site where the user feeds are overrun with posts by weirdo Trump supporting right-wingers.

So, I know Trump cultists(including the several on this forum) are fucking hacks who just make arguments in the moment and have no regard for consistency, but I don't understand why these facts aren't all evidence that the election is being stolen in front of our eyes.

It's not, of course. Media companies can do what they want, and you can say it's bad that they influence one way or the other, but nothing about it is a "stolen election". I guess I'm just a little tired of the ridiculous shamelessness of the Trump cult and want to point that out.

A free press is a critical requirement for a legitimate democracy or election. But you know this

You have to define your terms... I don't know what any of this means. It's just buzzwords. And the idea that the press is more restricted today than it was in previous generations(or decades) makes no sense to me, but please make the case for us.

Also, Trump is the most hostile president to the free press in the 21st century. He wants to pull CBS's broadcast license because they had one fact-check of JD Vance during the debate.

That totally contradicts all logic again regardless of who has been in office. Wages don’t keep up with inflation and there is always a short term goal oriented mindset on balance sheets. Companies are going to suddenly accept lowering their profits to make more domestic products? Doubtful

they would have no choice as the tariff would make the price of goods equal. why would people pay for cheap quality when good quality is the same price. if prices are equal price best product will win.

you fail to mention that there are a lot of imported goods that arent made domestically so people will have no choice but to pay the tariffs on a LOT of products

would depend how they are done some items may not face anything while some do i dont think any plan has actually been laid out. kind of troubling that we dont know what industries might get ruined in the mess before hand.

/e agenda47 talks of baseline tariffs but does not include any numbers on what they will be.
