What if they raised wages instead of suppressing wages? I'm sure more would be eager to jump on those jobs. If everything go up in price, you can't expect people to be happy to work more hours for less. There's 0 chance someone born in a first world country will be able to compete versus someone from India who'll be more than happy to work for 3-5$ per hour after paying 40-60k for that job while living 10-15 in a room with a stench of shit and piss.
Without any further regulation or constraint on corporate profits everyone would just complain the prices are too high and they cant afford the end product. Is that a bad thing? Maybe not, maybe we don't need 50 coffee chains or locations on each block.
Are we about to restrict large conglomerates, probably not. But we could do it in-directly by restricting the flow to skilled immigrants primarily, opening up our restrictions around healthcare / allow a challenge examination to bypass the silly academic requirements that restrict skilled immigrants from being things like a nurse, something we badly need.
Suddenly corporations wouldn't have all that cheap labour and would be forced to do something. Be it close locations, pay more, ect.
Its a very complex issue though, especially in a place like Canada where we do clearly lack labour capacity, have massive land capacity but lack housing and public infrastructure to accommodate anything.
