I didn't say they have no potential adverse effects. I said they are used frequently without adverse affects. Which is true. You can often take medication and have no significant side effects, even if those side effects are possible.

Maybe the reason people don't experience adverse effects is because they haven't been taking these drugs long enough. Maybe they will suffer something major after say 10 years, however we don't know what it will be, because we don't understand the long term side effects well enough. And if you advocate children take drugs whose long term effects are not well understood, this is irresponsible and reckless.

It's possible if you post againn you will develop aids.

It hasn't been ruled out.

I don't think you should risk it.

Then you need to establish that there is a link between posting on forums and developing aids. There isn't any. But human bones grow during puberty and these blockers alter the course of puberty, so they might have an impact on bone development. There is a link.

If it takes 10 years for adverse affects then we can say that children being given these drugs will experience no adverse affects, becasue you do not stay on them for 10 years. You delay puberty for a few years until you are old enough to make a decision about your own development.

They do have capacity for adverse affects, but the risks are well understood for the time period they are being used on for both endocrinological diseases, and gender affirming care.

Ok I'm a lil confused about these puberty blockers. What do they do exactly? Do they merely postpone puberty for a few years, or do they halt it completely?

Also, the way you talk, it sounds like the puberty process can be stopped and then restarted at will, with no ill effects whatsoever.

Which is why I asked for his source, because I knew exactly where you could find it, and wanted to demonstrate beyond any doubt the opinion wasn't based on evidence. Becasue if it was it would have been as easy as "it was in your link".

I think a rhetorical victory over jessiwan here is less important than trying to determine what is true

well you specifically said "with no adverse affects" while the article talks about side effects, which are technically different than adverse effects anyway. I don't think it's fair to say the long-term outcomes of puberty blockers are well understood, nor is it insignificant that Scandinavian countries are either banning or greatly limiting the use of puberty blockers.

I simply don't think we can be so confident that they are the best solution

They postpone puberty for a few years.

In general you can stop puberty blockers pretty much whenever and resume puberty.

It can be used for precotious puberty, which is when you go through it too early. Imagine an 8 year old starting that kind of development. It's not healthy physically or mentally. That's the traditional use.

But sometimes a kid is 13 and says they feel like they're trans. In that case they can get puberty blockers and if after a year or two they say "ya know what, I've explored my gender and I think I was wrong" they can restart puberty with a very low risk of ill effects.

The only time it would go beyond that before 18 is if the kid has been on treatment for several years, seen lots of doctors, and consistently said they are trans. In those cases a kid might be allowed to transition when they're above 16. Those cases have a virtually zero regret rate because they were examined for years beforehand and it only happens when the doctors are extremely confident the feelings are genuine and not based on something else.

You don't determine what is true on PaRD. You do it in the scientific literature. And the scientific literature has very specific and well founded recommendations that ensure the welfare of children, and that is the standard we now know as gender affirming care.

Countries banning types of care should be taken with a MASSIVE grain of salt. That is a political process, not a scientific or medical process. The medical consensus is extremely strong which is why basically every evidence-based organization recommends largely the same course of treatment.

First they ban abortion, now they are up in arms over hormone blockers.

Fact- children are reaching puberty at a much younger age nowadays.

They stop the body from producing key hormones such as testosterone and estrogen

which of course, is a recipe for disaster developmentally
