They are Erdogan's fifth column anyway. In Turkish presidential elections, Erdogan typically wins Turks living in Germany by a larger margin than Turks living in Turkey... I guess it's the same story with Turks in the Netherlands, Austria, etc.

Kinda makes sense anyway. European Turks are receptive to all the same nationalist appeals from Erdogan, but without having to actually live with his shitty economic policies or the repression.

Don't forget the EU is now also relying on the UK for defence. A country that, while possessing top quality military tech, has an army that can be fit on a footy pitch.

If Starmer wants to show true leadership, he should have bargained with the EU for a better trade deal in exchange for closer co-operation on defence. But no, he's offered to put our troops in Ukraine without any movement from Europe on our trading arrangements, while coward countries like Spain spend 1.3% of their GDPs on defence and refuse to be part of the coalition of the willing.

The most worrying thing of all is that if Europe is in a dangerous time and may require citizens to fight, our countries have lost all sense of the nationalist pride and social cohension that serves as a pre-requisite for a willingness to fight. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians have it in spades.

Europe will show deference to Trump or be destroyed. They can choose to join the Great American Empire or the Russian Empire, the choice is theirs

The neoliberal Western policies of the past 30 years have deliberately undermined national pride and social cohesion as a pre-requisite for razing the welfare state and national borders which stand in the way of unfettered, globalized competition... competition which only benefits multinational corporations, to the detriment of domestic workers and national tax revenue.


Regarding the UK military: it makes a lot of sense for the UK to focus on its navy and air force, rather than its army. For the UK, nipping an amphibious invasion of its territory in the bud is the far more promising defense tactic than engaging in ground battles against enemy forces after they have successfully landed.
