For those who want us to change our lifestyle and economy due to climate change, soaring gas prices are a feature, not a bug.

Massive economic disruption that hurts the middle and lower classes disproportionately will happen no matter what.

Its not "higher gas cost or smooth sailing". It's "higher gas prices or 20% more of the earths surface including parts if the US and Middle East become unlivable".

False dichotomy. There are at least two more options:

- distributing the reduction in consumption/mobility/etc equitably between everyone, rather than pricing the lower and middle classes out while the super rich keep jetting around the world. this would ofc require some sort of ecosocialism.
- finding technological solutions which reduce the amount of sacrifice necessary to keep climate change manageable.

And yes yes, I know what you want to say: the second point goes back to your favorite argument that the world could be a in a much better position in this regard if big oil and corrupt conservative politicians hadn't dropped the ball on the issue for decades.

I'd be absolutely fine with splitting the burden among everybody equally. But good luck with that. The same rich people that kept us from investing for 50+ years aren't gonna like that. In fact, you specifically don't like it because you call those kinds of policies "liberal slush funds". That's what you have to do to split equity. Tax the biggest benefactors of the problem and distribute it to the people who are bearing the cost.

Yes. When you don't invest for 50 years you have to invest more aggressively to meet the same target. Same with retirement. You can save 15% of your income starting at your 20's. Or you can save 80% of your income when you're 50. We chose the latter option.

Are you telling me a Republican isn't actually concerned with climate change?

The point was the hypocrisy of the quite literal "limousine liberals" who have lavish lifestyles, but preach sacrifice to the little man in the context of climate change.

Also, Arnie is functionally a Democrat in 2021.
