Maybe if he wants to balance the budget he should reconsider the hundreds of millions of dollars that subsidize privately owned development for the rich and elite like the $500,000,000 that subsidized the Brewer's baseball stadium in the 90s rather than revoking first amendment rights from average citizens without great wealth or political clout.

That would have been my grandfathers, mining coal in Pennsylvania.  Real American heroes.

Mom's side were miners from East KY/ W. VA. Father's side were Irish railroad people who mostly ended up in Cleveland.

I'm the first college grad in my family that I know of.

I don't have Cable News or gossip shows like Fox News so no Third Person Effect here.  Scott Walker and his ilk's ideological war isn't temporary.  They want to strip public sector employees civil rights and never give them back.  Their war is ideological and they actually believe that they are right in the universal sense, and not in a time and place sense.  Scott Walker and his ilk want the unions to not exist anymore, plain and simple.  This has always been the case, ever since some workers were treated bad somewhere, got together and said "fuck this, lets do something about this", and hurt profit.

just because they want it forever doesnt mean they expect it to last longer than a term. my point is he knows its temporary. It got that alcohol prohibition feel all over it.

the average citizens voted him back in after he got recalled. id say the public has spoken, or theyre too lazy to hit the fucking voting booths. either way theres more people who agree or dont think he deserved to get voted out to keep him right where he wants to be.

i dont support the guys whole platform but i agree on holding back a massive unions collective bargaining rights as a way to freeze the budget. its not just teachers, corrections workers also need a check, they have a massive union so walker wont touch them, because walking away from prisoners is worse than students

So insulting public employees and pretending that they're incompetent will justify stripping them of first amendment rights? That's basically what your elementary school level argument is right?

Who are you trying to fool?

Low pay is a disincentive to hard work. The same is true about job security, and you definitely don't try hard when you're poorly paid and difficult to fire.

Stop with the strawmen and ad hominem, you don't have a right to a public sector job, and you don't have a right to extort the public for cash.

No one is making the argument that all public sector employees are crap, but you're relying on charity to bring in talent and filling in the rest with underachievers. We ought to keep the charitable and pay for quality.

Why do you think all public employees are underachievers? It seems like you are just parroting a bad talking point from somewhere.

I explicitly said that I don't think that.

Underachievers hide in public employment because it offers stable (low) pay and good benefits. They're fine with the low pay and they like that they can't get fired. Unfortunately they recognize that they aren't paid much, and don't have much of a natural inclination to work hard.

There are plenty of incredibly patriotic people in public employment and only anarchists like datajunky want to get rid of them (I've advocated within this thread to give them a raise), but it makes no sense to admit the former and then say that the presence of slackers is somehow acceptable. We can have the one and not excuse the other, they do not have to coexist.

you realize unnecessary middlemen who offer no value to the business live a rather comfortable life in all large corporations?

slackers exist in both public and private
