It's common knowledge that cheap energy is the lifeblood of an economy. Historically countries that can generate or purchase cheap energy often develop a competitive edge and outcompete others all things being equal. It's one of the main reasons why China today is building 30 nuclear power reactors across China, because it's by far the cheapest and most reliable baseload power energy source. Meanwhile electricity prices in Germany when there's no sun or wind:

Dunkelflaute for tomorrow.

936 €/MWh in Germany and Denmark at 5 PM.

By far the highest in Europe, 3x more expensive than France, over 5x more expensive than Poland. Not even German master engineering or efficiency can mitigate this level of disparity in energy costs. Something has to change or this will hollow out Germany's industrial output for generations. Wake up German bros time to kick out the leftist idiots like yesterday or your kids will be economic migrants in Poland.

I don't disagree with any of this, but take a closer look at the map and you will see that the situation isn't fundamentally better in Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark or southern Sweden and southern Norway, either. And Norway and the NL are major oil-producing countries. Even in nuclear-heavy France, the price is at a horrible level with €275/kWh. At this price point, even they are no longer competitive on the global markets.

Germany is at the center of the issue, but the Green Agenda is wrecking all of Europe's energy supplies.

Electricity is a bidding market. By closing down our own nuclear reactors, we made electricity in other places more expensive. Don't be mistaken, it is our fault.

Pretty much, seen this recently that reinforces it. 5/USD per shower is crazy, did the math and we in the US in my region pay approx 180usd/MWh for residential and way cheaper for commercial like 40/MWh. My monthly bill is like 50-80 bucks.

Sweden Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Ebba Busch stated today that "she's furious with Germany" for dismantling its nuclear power plants, causing a spike in energy prices in Sweden.

Southern Sweden has record-high energy prices today due to having send electricity to Germany via undersea power cables today.

Cold weather coupled with no wind has driven up the demand in Germany from other sources than wind. EU regulations force Sweden to send that electricity to Germany, driving up prices in southern Sweden today to be nearly 200 times higher than they are in northern Sweden.

A 10-minute shower in southern Sweden costs around USD 5 during today's price spike.

Ebba Busch added that Germany's decision to dismantle its nuclear power plants has also other detrimental effects for Europe:

"I'm furious with the Germans. They have made a decision for their country, which they have the right to make; it's their right to decide. But it has had very serious consequences, also for the EU's competitiveness because we see that German competitiveness has dropped significantly."

She said that Germany's actions have also reduced its ability to help Ukraine.

- “After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, they still chose to dismantle their nuclear power plants... I respect that people can have different opinions about nuclear power plants, but we could have kept it. They are important because they are baseload power plants.

Having access to such baseload power plants would have increased the transmission capacity from Germany to other electricity price areas in Europe, driving down prices for all of us"

German decision to dismantle the best in class and the safest nuclear stations in humanities history so far will go down as the biggest blunder of the 21st century.

I hope people involved in lies and deception that causes this decision to be made will be eventually held accountable.

Germany should regain its sovereignty, get Russian gas back into its energy mix and triple down on building the safest and most efficient nuclear stations in the world. Germans are famous for overengineering its tech and I’m confident only Germans can make these work reliably.

There are now rich low energy consumption societies. We need to strive for better and cheaper energy sources from eg nuclear and fusion reactors. Energiewende with solar/wind + battery storages ain’t it. Period.

Russia surprisingly stopped providing gas to Germany in 2021 and 2022 year, to force Germany to help Russia in Russian war effort.
So when you buy gas from Russia you became defacto Russian vassal state. Its a political deal, you promise to do whatever Russians ask, or they stop the gas for the winter like they already did in 2021 and 2022.
Not a good idea, and certainly not a sovereignity

It’s an absolutely shit situation,” said Norway’s energy minister Terje Aasland.

Norway’s two governing parties want to scrap an electricity interconnector to Denmark/Germany, with the junior coalition partner also calling for a renegotiation of power links to the UK and Germany, as sky-high prices trigger panic in the rich Nordic country.

A lack of wind in Germany pushed electricity prices in southern Norway.

It has got little to do with Russian gas. We had a disastrously stupid energy politic where we turned off ALL of our nuclear plants. Now, when the renewables aren't working (no wind or sun between dec. -feb.), we import energy from all of our neighbors hiking the price for everyone. It's all on Germany and the green party.
Our industry and that of our neighbors is making European industry not competitive with high wages and super high energy costs. Expects lots of job losses and rightwing shift before anything changes.
