How could pre covid trend possibly continue after covid? Is that not judging beyond the realms of possibility, like pretending there wasn't a global pandemic?
Why wouldn't growth return to its previous trajectory once covid was over and supply chain issues had been sorted out?
The answer is obvious: the aftershock of reckless covid spending, surging energy prices (which btw began in early summer of 2021, long before Russia's invasion of Ukraine) and crippling interest rates. Biden and his admin had a hand in all three of those things.

Trump had good employment figures and it didn't help get him re-elected. Maybe that was more about his fumbling of the pandemic.
Without covid, Trump cruises to reelection. It destroyed the best thing he got going for him, made people miserable and unhappy with the current state of affairs on election day and helped the Biden campaign in a multitude of ways. And even then, he still would have eked out a win if not for the Floyd protests.
