How did it feel when you pledged allegiance to lizzy?

"How much does Canada pay to the British monarchy?
What do Canadians pay to the Crown? Each Canadian pays approximately $1.55 to the Crown, totalling almost $59 million annually.
These fees go to the Governor General, who not only represents the Queen but also carries out the parliamentary duties of the sovereign in their absence"

Insane btw

Ireland GDP per capita ~ over 100k USD

Scotland GDP per capita (including oil and gas extraction) ~53k USD

I kind of understand our friends desire for Ukraine to break away from the shackles of their bigger domineering neighbor. He doesn't want them to be like Scotland but rather like their successful cousins across the Irish Sea. Very noble tbh.

Assuming you were a migrant^^
Not the only government.

13% of Canadians are of Scottish descent. Scots were colonizing the globe while your ancestors were figuring out their favourite way to cook a beaver

Can you say shell company?

Always willing to educate the less intellectually well endowed.

However you raise a good point. The ability to set corporation tax is a powerful tool in the age of globalisation. With its high education standards and literacy, exceedingly lower land prices than London and much more established oil and gas industry than Ireland(not difficult as Ireland doesn't actually have any industry outside money laundering); Scotland would be well placed to take advantage of setting a competitive corporation tax rate. Westminster knows this.

You can use whatever metric you wish my friend, pretty much all show Ireland is more economically successful compared to Scotland.

Even if that's because Ireland is a tax haven, it doesn't change that huge corpos are paying into the coffers of Ireland rather than other countries.

Correct. By those metrics Ireland is more succesful than 99% of other countries. Almost twice as successful as the United States.
Would you consider living standards in Ireland to be twice as good as they are in the United States? I doubt it.

Please don't however assume I am your friend

Irelands economic model is built on pillars of sand. All it takes is a single European country with high levels of english language speakers to set a lower corporation tax and you can bet your ass Apple packs up in a matter of days leaving hundreds of thousands unemployed.

Would much rather follow Norways economic model.

I'm not a migrant lol, I'm sure that probably annoys all the people who move here from India though

My ancestors were Scottish :D

I'm not sure colonizing the globe is the best description for attempting to start two colonies and failing in such a spectacular fashion that it led to being completely dominated by the English.
