there will be another wave in a month or so..october i'd say.

Its finally hit our staff pretty good. Has you doing a lot of funny math, counting days since you've seen people.

I assume if they tested us all they would have to send half of us home. We are colonized with so much crap in hospitals.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/department-justice-requesting-data-governors-states-issued-covid-19-orders-may-have-resulted

two additional updates:

Trump administration has purchased a contract of 150,000,000 rapid coronavirus tests from Abbott Laboratories for $5 each, with 15 minute testing time, set to be distributed to schools, nursing homes and other prioritized environments.
The Department of Justice is initiating the preliminary steps of an investigation into whether the governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan violated the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act by requiring covid-19 positive patients to be sent to nursing homes, which resulted in many deaths.

Now THIS is something I can get behind. This should help tremendously with opening schools.

Hospitals have never been close to overwhelmed

That's not the point. The point is that letting the virus spread unchecked and then not issue any stay-at-home orders or lockdowns would overwhelm the medical system. Hospitals might not have been overwhelmed back in April, but they would have been fairly soon without the lockdowns. Hence, the death rate or the median age of the deceased are not the only concern when choosing a covid strategy - its disruptive potential also reaches the young and healthy population.

And just for the record: I'm myself a proponent of a relatively lax approach to covid, I reject harsh lockdowns or regulations, I pity the members of the "church of the mask" who think masks are a panacea and would make aaaaall the difference, etc. There is plenty of room for dealing with this virus in responsible fashion without falling into a panic or resorting to draconian measures which completely undermine civic freedom.

In my opinion, the lockdown fanatics and the corona deniers are both lunatic idiots and no one should listen to either of them.

Two portable hospitals in NYC completely unused.

because the issue isn't if they have hospitals, the issue is if they have staff. They had to fly in doctors and nurses from pretty much all over the country.

It doesn't matter if you have a million beds if doctors are your limiting factor, and doctors have a severe limit to how many ICU patients they can take at a time due to the need for constant monitoring and immediate response.

Maybe for teachers I suppose
at some point it might be politics getting in the way of the science, if they start wasting tests on the least vulnerable population of children in order to appease worrywarts

Given that we need to ration, I'd imagine that this would be used for high school/middle school students (likely in low income areas where kids need to be supervised).
