The average age of death for it is 80. But tHe media spun the panic into fantasy world levels for some reason.

hospitalization rates start going up substantially starting from the age of 60 or even 50. it's just that those "younger old patients" mostly survive it if they have to be hospitalized. hence, hospitals would be overwhelmed if we let the virus burn through the population completely unchecked.

you've somehow regressed to where we were in this discussion back in March.
and no, this does not mean that a strategy of total suppression of the virus with the most hardcore public health measures is the best way forward either!

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm

This weeks CDC excess death numbers appear to show we are now on the receding edge of the second wave
Last week it appeared like that could be the case but it wasn't very certain
The numbers can always be revised a bit upwards or downwards but projections show the first wave peaked April 4-11th, second wave peaked July 18-25th, and we have slightly lower death tolls in the next 2 weeks, and of course this week unknowable.

two additional updates:

Trump administration has purchased a contract of 150,000,000 rapid coronavirus tests from Abbott Laboratories for $5 each, with 15 minute testing time, set to be distributed to schools, nursing homes and other prioritized environments.
The Department of Justice is initiating the preliminary steps of an investigation into whether the governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan violated the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act by requiring covid-19 positive patients to be sent to nursing homes, which resulted in many deaths.

Data will help inform whether the Department of Justice will initiate investigations under the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act (CRIPA) regarding New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan’s response to COVID-19 in public nursing homes
Today the Justice Department requested COVID-19 data from the governors of states that issued orders which may have resulted in the deaths of thousands of elderly nursing home residents. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan required nursing homes to admit COVID-19 patients to their vulnerable populations, often without adequate testing.

For example, on March 25, 2020, New York ordered: “No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to [a nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. [Nursing homes] are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.”

glad they’re doing this. all that talk of “pushing grandma off the cliff” years back by the (D)s and then 3 of their governors go and force covid-19 patients into nursing homes
