It's unhealthy because of nutritional inefficiency. Many proteins found from vegan sources are incomplete. It is often advised that switching to vegan diets that you consult with a doctor. It has to be carefully managed lest you deprive your body of key nutrients! It is also very easy to overheat on a vegan diet if you gorge yourself on pasta every night.
The diet I advocate is not to be confused with the average diet. We can eat the same vegetables, but we simply replace the "filler" calories with fat instead of carbs. The lack of bread eliminates the risk of spiking one's blood sugar where a vegan diet does not. An ethical vegan could easily compromise one's health if not careful. And many vegans will and do consume the dangerous hydrogenated oils and other unsafe vegetable oils. They may do so eating a plate of 2000 calorie appetizing zucchini planks. Not anyone on my diet. Saturated animal fats only. Oils that are not chemically derived and that can be extracted with nothing more than a press such as olives and peanuts, still not ideal.
What nutrition inefficiency? Like I said, in every professional sport, including power lifting, there are vegans. You can get an appropriate amount of protein on a vegan diet.
America should consult with a doctor about their current diets, because our #1 killer is heart disease. Like I said, people who switch to a vegan diet need to eat enough and supplement with B12. No vegan would advocate eating a bunch of pasta every day... that's not a healthy alternative to the SAD.
Saturated animal fats are not good for you. Oils in general are not optimal for health, but a vegan diet with moderate oils is better than a meat eating diet with moderate oils.
