Well, we obviously aren't spending enough on police. And we're obviously spending too much on education.
You can always tell you're spending too much on education when you get degrees, in stupid subjects.

You may THINK we spend too much on military, but when China decides to make the move they are winding up for, you'll suddenly get a new perspective on things.

As for healthcare, the real problem is the overly inflated costs. We HAVE plenty of facilities and medical professionals, already. The real problem is that everyone IN the medical field is padding every bill at every step along the way. [pharma, ambulances, insurance, supplies... everything]

2 months ago I needed to go to the hospital, 6 miles away, no meds. The ONLY thing they did was EKG. $1500+

Got to emergency, they gave me some blood thinner, then ignored me for 4 hours... $10k. THAT is the problem.

The "better" races? LOL I supposed you mean those like South Africa, or the Middle East... just to name a few. Hello !!

Or maybe those lovable Somalians...

What makes you think China is planning something? Why would they want to destroy a cash cow?

Controlling the cost is fine. At least we agree its broken and needs to be fixed.

China has been "making a move" for at least the last 10 years. They play a long game. Most in the fast paced world, don't even see it.

There is no "problem". The FED could raise the taxes through the roof, and give everyone free everything. Just like every other country that has free everything.
This ofc, is what the Dems/left want to do.
What most people don't realize is that if we pay for it with taxes, we, the people don't have a say. But, if we let people pay for it themselves, they have a choice.

And yes, everyone knows big pharma, the insurance companies and the medical world are robbing everyone blind. Wouldn't it be nice if our congress (both) could get their shyt together and try to solve THAT.

You do get a say, by voting and influencing the political process.

The only way to get costs under control is to expand negotiating groups. Things get cheaper when you buy in bilk, and thats what you are doing with national healthcare.

The stability unnerves me because it undermines the basic theory of responsive democracy. If our political divisions cut so deep that even 200,000 deaths and 10.2 percent unemployment and a president musing about bleach injections can’t shake us, then what can? And if the answer is nothing, then that means the crucial form of accountability in American politics has collapsed. Yes, many of us are partisans, with a hard lean one way or the other. But the assumption has long been that beneath that, we are Americans, and we want the country governed with some bare level of competence, that we care more for our safety and our paychecks than our parties.

Worth reading the whole thing.

that's the whole point of the polarisation, fear-mongering, and lying. making politics so divisive and building a sports team / religious cult mentality amongst your voters means their support is not predicated on good policies that benefit them, but simply on beating the other "team".

as dumb as trump is, that's one thing he realised, and relentlessly exploited, from early on (refer to his 'i could shoot someone on fifth avenue and not lose any voters' comment). demonising and lying about "the others" is his path to not being held accountable by his supporters. that's how he can be undeniably responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths related to covid-19, while his idiot supporters don't give a single fuck about it.

that's why it's been called a 'cult' for years now - really not all that surprising to me that not even his complete mismanaging of a pandemic has destroyed his chances to win the electoral college again. i'd say he still has at least a 40% chance of getting re-elected...

The Sarah Huckabee Sanders/Trump/Kim Jong Un story that is being told right now is pretty hilarious.

How awkward was that?
