You know its bad when I read this complaint on the /r/minneapolis sub which is slightly to the left of chairman mao
18% mandatory gratuity from the orpheum
6.875% state sales tax
0.65% county sales tax (0.15 general, 0.5 transit)
0.5% city sales tax
1.0% metro area sales tax (0.25 housing, 0.75 transit)
=9.025% city-wide sales tax
+3% entertainment sales tax
+3% downtown restaurant sales tax
=15.025% sales tax, applied to base purchase
+2.5% liquor tax
=17.525% sales tax, applied to the mandatory gratuity (presumably because even though its not liquor, they'd have to charge this much on gratuities that include liquor and they never set it up to make that distinction)
because the 'gratuity' is just an arbitrarily increased cost and thus itself taxable
net result that the 5.22 advertised price box of M&Ms actually have a base price of 6.16, and after tax comes to 7.11
Two boxes of M&Ms for what a steak dinner used to cost ya know back in the 2010s
