Yeah there is a bit of a self-defeating aspect that the #1 stride America had made in pushing pro-western propaganda and just reinforcing pro-western populist sentiments, whether naturally or by algorithmic manipulation, was social media. Look at how Putin blamed the state department and hillary clinton for nosing into the russian 2011 election with cyber operations. Its hard to know the extent, whether its just social media giving populist platforms, or CIA shilling, or whatever, we're outsiders, we're behind an obvious wall of our own propaganda and we don't speak Russian, so good luck figuring out how deep the West has sunk into Russia via the internet. But one things for sure, it was our best method. What's left, drop leaflets on them from high altitude spy planes? And when social media platforms pull the plug on Russia and vice versa, that's not serving our messaging.
