Most of the North Sea oil is gone, there was never loads of it and it's going to be obsolete in like 10 years so it's not some silver bullet.
Obviously agree about Westminster letting Scotland down. It's kinda funny how maligned Blair has been for the past 17 years but now people are realising he was the best Prime Minister we ever had on domestic policy.
Actually that's a false narrative.
"24 billion barrels left. Around 43 billion barrels have so far been extracted from the North Sea while investment in the sector reached a record high last year of more than £14 billion.
Industry estimates suggest there are up to 24 billion barrels remaining."
What is true is that the oil that remains is more difficult to extract and therefore more cost prohibitive. What is also true is that more oil has been taken than remains. Its a finite resource.
Thats what makes it even more disgusting that a finite resource was squandered away by the British government. Norway are laughing all the way to the bank and had Scotland been independent pre 2000 even, then it would be in a very similar position.
Simply because of the population : resource ratio would've and would still be in fact, enormous.
Oil in Scottish water essentially subsidised Westminster. Thats what makes it even more ironic to hear people claim its the other way around in terms of London subsidising Scotland or even the North of England.
And the tragic irony is that nowhere in the UK are we producing anything of significant global importance in large enough volume to be game changing.
All of the "wealth" is actually pseudo-wealth tied up in the City of London. Thats a spiders nest nobody even wants to touch.
Lets have a new new-labour thats even more centrist and basically right leaning than ever before. Just to highlight the futility of swining from one centre party to the next.
