Right because punishing the rich instead of dealing with actual exploitation/loopholes and straight up corruption is only pedestrian would come up with. How about putting an end to infinite money printing by the fed or toxic financial instruments which undermine the fabric of society? How about addressing fact that debt based lending isn't taxed which is essentially tax avoidence or other corrupt practices. Nope let's put a bandaid solution and tax the wealthy so that the money transfers from one source into government coffers which are run by the wealthy anyway. Who create mass inflation through debt.

Also inequality exists (and will always exist) because there is someone who is smarter, willing to work harder, longer hours, and perhaps even play dirty to get ahead in life. You can't cure those things with cutting some people at the knees to make everyone equal. That's what small minded individuals have always promoted "eat the rich"
