victim is white male

black guy walked up to the white guy, shot him, then took off running
unclear if its related at all to the protests since there doesn't appear to be large mobs or trump flag vehicles around

The antifa rioters quickly converged on him when his location was blasted on livestreams
It turned into a sort of walking speed lynch mob as Joey walked away and a group of antifa yelled threats, hurled projectiles and assaulted them a few times, possibly including a stabbing
Eventually Joey made it to a Chevron that has been boarded up and was let in by the owner. The antifa mob had grown to hundreds by that point and started sieging the Chevron, smashing windows and tearing down the boards and looking for someone with arsonist tools to burn down the gas station. You know, trying to burn a gas station surrounded by hundreds of people, what could go wrong
but before any fires were lit and before they broke into the station the portland police swarmed in, a large force that didn't waste any time and immediately swept away the antifa mob
appears to have defused the situation

I saw some tweets earlier with vids that just described the guy as "Joey Gibson"... I figured he was a professional athlete or something.

Joey Gibson leads Patriot Prayer, a group that regularly brawls with Antifa and is defined by being right wing nationalists who are both very loudly pro-Trump and anti-racism.
Mostly formed in reaction to Antifa violence directed at speakers on college campuses, so conservatives would oppose the hecklers veto
Generally they're just brawling with each other in low level street melees and accusing each other of being the transgressor on social media
popped into prominence around the same time as the unite the right rally, as a group that actively opposed and excluded the white supremacist elements that poisoned that
