The alternative is for people to retire later, but that's not a feasible option in a lot of professions, say roofers or construction workers.

Even in tech professions it's tough. When I interned at Qualcomm way back when, we were working with 65 nm chips. Machine learning existed but it wasn't mainstream, even in Silicon Valley. My grad school degree was obsolete in under 3 years.

Now, I find that people who are 22-25 know WAY more than what I did when I graduated. You REALLY need to stay on top of things and I just can't see myself doing that when I'm in my mid 40s!

I just don't see us cutting benefits so we gotta bite the bullet.

Right this minute there's a potential brewing conflict in Portland

a Pro-Trump caravan of vehicle is driving on a route through down-town with lots of american flags and trump flags on their trucks
large amounts of antifa militants have turned out on the streets and are harassing / vandalizing them
no police appear to be present anywhere between the groups

lots of projectiles being thrown, bats used to attack vehicles by antifa, flags being set on fire
some pro-trump passengers spraying mace and shooting paintball guns

/e police appear to be on the freeway behind the caravan now, because they just broke up a fight between two men... dueling in pretty dignified fisticuffs on the freeway ramp. Like, classic hands up mutual pugilism with no dirty moves. Cops ran in and broke it up

initial reports are he's dead on scene. audio-only stream from a witness saying "he looks dead. He's definitely dead, shot 3 times"
police surrounding a body which is covered in a tarp, so yeah that's a fatality

no details on who, what, why, etc yet
uncontrolled scene with a mob of rioters and police deploying crowd control munitions
