Even in tech professions it's tough. When I interned at Qualcomm way back when, we were working with 65 nm chips. Machine learning existed but it wasn't mainstream, even in Silicon Valley. My grad school degree was obsolete in under 3 years.
Now, I find that people who are 22-25 know WAY more than what I did when I graduated. You REALLY need to stay on top of things and I just can't see myself doing that when I'm in my mid 40s!
I just don't see us cutting benefits so we gotta bite the bullet.
