Big endorsement from Human Rights Campaign on the anniversary of Biden publicly stating he supported gay marriage, before it was safe and acceptible to make a statement like this as an American political leader.

Idk man, 2012 wasn't exactly early. That was after Obama's second inauguration.

Clinton was basically the last hold out on the left and Obama went out of his way to avoid that kind of thing for as long as possible.

He's not a Clinton, but 2012 isn't exactly a time point to be bragging about.

Yeah, but it was hardly a risk to ensorse in 2012 as a newly elected VP.

Hes definitely going to be better than any Republican on the issue, obviously

article reads HRC endorses Biden

funny because HRC and Biden hated homosexuals and/or same-sex marriage during the 2008 election and many years after. Ironically both Sanders and Trump were way more tolerant in their views much earlier than those other two bonafide (D) bigots

Indeed. In 2008, when the tides hadnt turned yet, Biden took no risk and didnt come out in favor of gay marriage:

Asked if he would support gay marriage, Biden said: “No. Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage.”

Oh btw, what did the Obama/Biden administration actually do for gay marriage post-2012? Iirc, they didnt exactly throw the weight of the federal executive behind this issue until the SCOTUS ruled in favor of it in Obergefell v. Hodges.

At the end of the day, the winds had already changed on this issue by 2012, and Obama/Biden were still treading carefully on the issue, not taking any risks in order to advance LGBTQ issues. I really doubt that Biden deserves too much praise for his cautious and opportunistic approach. Of course he's still by far the better candidate from an LGBTQ point of view than Trump, particularly considering the fact that both a health issue or impeachment could take out Trump during his second term and pave the way for Mike Pence, a prolific LGBTQ hawk.
