The main things causing this are the electoral college and gerrymandering. Otherwise you wouldn't have seen a Republican president this century or a Republican majority in the House. Bush only got the popular vote in 2004 because of the Iraq war, and if he hadn't already been in office no way would a Republican have won the popular vote. So 24 years without Republicans wielding any power except in a few states and only at the state level. Instead they hold control over the Supreme Court and can shape policy even from the minority. Democrats always temper their polices to cater to Republican voices, while shutting down the farther left. Republicans have no such civility. Allowing such a vocal minority to have more power than the silent center-left moderately liberal majority prevents natural progress and leads to social conflict.
Completely delusional. House Republicans received more total votes than House Democrats in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2022. Literally the only time they the retained a majority while receiving less votes than Democrats was 2012.
Likewise, it's a complete pipedream to believe that Democrats would have held the presidency with ease after being in power for 12 consecutive years (1992 through 2004). Gore wouldn't have started the Iraq War, so that effect couldn't have been his saving grace in 2004. Also, in case they somehow manage to hold the WH once more in 2004, then they would have gone into the 2008 election owning the financial crisis and having been in power for 16 years - at that point, a GOP landslide would have been absolutely inevitable.
