This is foreign masters forcing Hungary to adopt an aggressive military alliance by threats and coercion, even though its both against their interests and their wishes.
The EU has turned its banking into a weapon of oppression against vassal states, every bit as domineering and absolutist as Russia to its sphere.
I'm imagining how the US would be run if these despotic masters had their way. If the senators from Kentucky veto a bill granting amnesty to illegal aliens, everyone in Kentucky will get de-banked and have the federal reserve puppeteer banks into calling in all outstanding debts and refusing new loans until the senate bill gets passed. I think Mather Byles had a line about trading one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away

European livelihoods are fine, don't believe the hype.

It's over the span of 4 years, from now through 2027. It amounts to roughly €1bn per months, which is not nothing, but not a huge sum either, compared to the overall budget of the EU and its member states.
Certainly cheaper than if Ukraine's economy collapses and an additional 5-15 million Ukrainians pack their bags and move to Western Europe...

If Ukraine's economy collapses and there's a mass exodus of its people, that would deal a lethal blow to the morale of their troops. What would they be fighting for at that point? If the goal is to hold the current lines, stabilizing Ukraine's economy is essential.

The claim that Russia becomes ever more likely to win the longer this war goes on is not really supported by logic or facts, at least not without additional, non-trivial assumptions. In reality, the longer the current stalemate goes on, the more likely it becomes that this is also where the lines will ultimately be drawn.
