How funny would it be if this galvanized Democratic voters and they end up winning in 2022 when they absolutely should lose.

*telemarketing voice* but wait, there is more!!!

How fucking incompetent are these idiots? Just as the wider public and even the media finally wake up to the incompetence of the Biden/Harris admin and would be willing to boot Democrats from office in 2022, let's bring back Trump to take the spotlight away from Afghanistan, covid, the still ongoing border crisis, the $3.5 trillion slush fund for liberal priorities and so on. A hardline stance on abortion which doesn't even enjoy majority support in deep red states and a potential return of Trump are the last things the GOP should want the public debate to revolve around right now, but here we are.

Also, going back to the Texas abortion bill and the SCOTUS inaction on it: don't TX Republicans and the conservative justices realize that their approach is giving ammunition to those in the Democratic party who want to convince Manchin and Sinema to abolish the filibuster, stack the courts, pass sweeping voting rights legislation and so on? From a tactical point of view, they should have kept a low profile until they win back one chamber of Congress in the midterms.

Unlikely for two reasons. One, abortion is relatively unpopular, especially after the first trimester, and two, abortion is even less popular in the swing districts the Democrats need to hold.

Iirc, public opinion is fairly clear: late term abortions are unpopular, but there is strong majority support for access to some form of abortion during the first trimester.
And in any case, abortion rights for victims of rape or incest have overwhelming majority support. Forcing a raped woman to carry the child of her rapist to full term under the threat of a prison sentence is not the hill the GOP wants to die on...

Another aspect to keep in mind: the open political flank of the GOP over the last 8 or so years has been their erosion in educated, upscale suburbs. Restrictive abortion stances will definitely not endear the GOP to college-educated suburban women.
Without a turnout advantage or the luck of running against a radioactive opponent, the Trump coalition is not enough to win federal elections. It's a good starting point due to its very efficient distribution, but the GOP needs to win over some voters outside of its base. Doubling down on a policy which only the most pro-GOP constituencies are really thrilled about is bad strategy.

I'm of the opinion that a man who gets a woman pregnant hasn't done his due diligence.

Can you blame him?

Out of all of the Democrats I've heard so far... AOC surprisingly has the best answer about what happened in Afghanistan.

Quote
“I ‎hope people understand ‎that this is what war looks like. ‎It is not ‎neat ‎and it is not pretty, ‎it is violent, ‎it is ‎brutal. ‎And -- ‎and we're out here ‎-- and we're out here ‎expecting like this is supposed to be a ‎cakewalk. ‎I mean ‎this -- this is war.”

Welfare created single moms. I think solving the first would naturally solve the second over time.

I think you're underestimating how quickly American voters forget things. If COVID ends up being endemic and inflation/unemployment is high-ish, Trump can simply say "there was nothing I could do about COVID, it's China's fault anyway plus I got the vaccine ready. Oh, and the economy was the best ever under me!" I think you'd be surprised at how quickly people forgive and forget.

Also, I know that Biden is at a pretty low point, but even someone like Trump can win a polarized environment:

I dunno, high turnout can fuck things over. Hell, Obama won INDIANA of all places b/c a bunch of liberal non-voters ended up voting. Even in swing districts, you have a lot of crazies.

Texas' law is a defacto ban on abortion. Pregnancy is measured after your last period so you're "4 weeks pregnant" when you're about to have the period you're going to miss. Periods can often be irregular so you're going to be almost 5 weeks pregnant by the time you go and get a pregnancy test. An abortion ban is DEEPLY unpopular.

I think this is a highly misleading way of looking at it. The Trump from early 2020 could defeat a weakened Biden who's coming off of a rocky first term. The post-January 6th Trump? I don't think so.

As soon as Trump takes the spotlight again, 50+X% of the country will quickly remember why they hated his guts. Democratic attack ads would play footage from the storming of the Capitol with Trump's words as voiceover 24/7.
Trump couldn't defeat Biden in 2020, and that was before the disgraceful end to his presidency which should have made him unpalatable to swing voters once and for all.

Also keep in mind that Trump would be 4 years older and even more bloated, orange and incoherent. His mental decline was very notable over the last 1-2 years of his presidency. If people are sick and tired of Biden by 2024, I just don't think that Trump is the one they would want to replace him with. Can you imagine the shitshow of a Trump/Biden debate in 2024? :o

But, why wouldn't he make that choice?

The dude can get off for free, no dinner even now thanks to dating apps. Girl doesn't even know his name.

And the woman can just beg for money and baby slice and dice from the government with a sob story.

Why even care anymore? She isn't responsible enough to say no to a bad choice. Just leave her with her consequences and walk away. Its not like she would be a good wife anyway.
