I didn't say people get more conservative with age, I said they get more conservative once they settle down, marry, have children, buy a house, have a stable job that they don't intend to change soon, etc.
Funnily enough, I know a couple of guys who got in a relationship with girls more leftist than them and then started toning down their own politics to appease their partner and keep the relationship together.
Maybe our differing experiences in this regard are a function of our social environment. I've been living in a large urban center (population over 2m in the metro) for almost two decades, myself as well as the bulk of my friends, family and peers are college-educated, many of them professionals. My family was never particularly conservative or religious. And the cultural/political contrast between rurals and cities, while big, is not nearly as gigantic here in Germany as it is in the US. Your political worldview seems to be shaped by the stark contrast between growing up in (I think?!) rural Missouri and the environment you experienced in grad school/your current job.
Don't be retarded dude. You just described shit that happens with age. If those things made you more conservative we would overwhelmingly see people become more conservative with age as most people end up marrying, buying a house, and having children, etc.
My political worldview was pretty set before I went to the city. I grew up in a rural area, realized how incredibly stupid and ignorant the conservatives were (I grew up around evolution denying baptists), and this was reinforced in my college years in a medium sized "city", then moved to a big city for work. I haven't changed my politics much since I was in high school except to understand the system is this way on purpose and not as an accident, and that the alternatives aren't just things that don't work, but are actively sabotaged because the people with money don't want you to realize they can work.
There's a bunch of common sayings here in the USA that goes "between Pittsburgh and Philadelpha is Alabama". Except you can exchange most cities. The urban and rural divide is pretty bad, and it's mostly owed to the lack of infrastructure in those areas. If you want a good job and a good life, you do not stay rural.
