The quran makes some pretty pointed distinctions in halal proscriptions about the intent and ritual of food, like animals sacrificed otherwise in compliance but done so as tribute to idols being a transgression

With "Christmas" being an invocation of another god. Of course, 7th century islam was more interested in combating worship of Ahura Mazda and not trying to parse the theological implications of doctrinal objections to other people of the book worshipping isa bin maryam as a living god
