Cuomo failed to defend NYs elderly. You made lies claiming that it wasnt possible to save them. Meanwhile the elderly never died in Florida even thpugh florida is much older. Just fucking give up. You look like a toddler.

There are far more factors at play than number of elderly.

Tell me, what would you have done differently? You can not ship them back to the nursing homes... but then the hospital system would have been able to provide exactly zero help to anybody after the first week since hospital beds are a super limited resource.

I've heard a lot of "Cuomo fucked up!" but nobody has shown a way it could have been handled better. The most I've gotten so far are statements like "keep them in the hospitals" that were totally unworkable and only come from total ignorance of how healthcare is delivered.

I would have taken some of the nursing home employees, given them gear, and have them treat elderly in tents until they recover.

And how would you have implemented that? The nursing home employees are not government workers, they are usually staff of private companies. So you're going to mandate they have to treat the covid patients in a tent? Hows that work?

The great thing about America is you can't just be a mayor and start forcing people to do things. The shitty part about America is the executive can't make decisive action when needed.

I'm not familiar with the powers of the NY governor during a state of emergency.

And this is the issue. We have a lot of criticism of Cuomo by people with no understanding of how the powers work or a basic understanding of the healthcare system.

I'm very open to Cuomo messing up. It was a pandemic and they were the first ones hit, they were the most vulnerable with lots of poverty and high population density, etc. etc. So there's ample room to show that it wasn't handled properly, but to show it wasn't handled properly we need to know how it could have been handled better. Maybe New York was doomed from the start and there was nothing he could have done? Maybe he dropped the ball and could have prevented 90% of infections? I've not seen a great argument for either being the case.
