he clearly outperforms his domestic results in germany though. it just rubs me the wrong way when people who enjoy and value their freedoms here, actively vote against them. if they had to live with the consequences, i wouldn't give a shit.

Sure, me too. It's just... I don't think the Erdogan voters in Germany are the types who would be too keen on civil liberties or preserving secularism if they lived in Turkey. Imho, this seemingly paradox result is best explained by the fact that a lot of the Turks in Germany have a low education and working-class background, which predisposes them to lean more (socially) conservative. And perhaps this inclination is further reinforced by the experience of growing up as a minority in a foreign country.

both reasonable explanations, yes. i see your point. shouldn't have called it "shocking", i guess. what i meant is "disappointing", "objectionable", "wrong" - not necessarily surprising.

ever heard how poorly integrated turks talk when they think they are amongst themselves?

they think of germany like a colony, that they will take over soon

there is actually no hypocrisy here this time

Now they are in worse position.
Now UK needs to respect EU laws, so that there is no hard border in Ireland, while they dont have any voting power on EU laws.

both sides can cherry pick and try to frame it in a positive light, but do you personally think that overall the UK is better off post brexit, or do you think it has hurt them?

its hard to say how hard they really got hit by brexit with the covid fallout, the ukraine situation and the global economy "crabbing" around

i always said its a fantastic chance for them, IF the government is not screwing up

the predicted exodus and other horror scenarios have not happened (cherry pickers would say that big corp like shell moved to their hq to the uk)

its too early to make a definitive statement, but so far i am on the negative side

their dipshit government promised to be able to control migration without the EU and what happens?

they still get flooded by boat migrants.....entire hotels full of albanian dudes applying for asylum (rofl)

in the position of a pro brexit voter i would be pissed
