A lot of poor people in New York though. Disease is so socioeconomic. I bet if you go by zip code similar socioeconomic regions will have the same rates of disease and death, and the biggest factor per state is who has the most poor zip codes.

I bet the people who are dying are the same in every state, the elderly and the impoverished.

The average age of death is 80. The truth is pretty obvious. Cuomo failed to protect nursing homes and got dickslapped.

We will have plenty of shitty chain restaurants but nobody doing real old recipes or good cookin.

Sending infected sleeper cells into nursing homes undoubtably didn't help.

because these smaller restaurants with the good food were all forced - at threat of jail or predatory fines - to close for two weeks indefinitely, while big box stores and peaceful protests of 10k+ people all not social distancing were fine to continue on

As someone who has done discharge planning on a geriatic psych unit and who has been the social worker of a nursing home i know a bit about this.

Honestly, its a big shit sandwich, and there is no way to protect them. Its a catch 22. Either you take sick and recovering people back or you have nowhere to send them for crisis stabilization.

You can score political points around this dynamic but they don't mean anything to people except Glot and co because your criticisms aren't grounded in reality.

For example, where do people go when they leave the hospital if they need skilled nursing level of care but can't go to a nursing home. Thundercock said keep them in the hospital? Then you can't treat new patients because the very finite resource of hospital bed is gone.

Also, nursing homes were dumping their long term care medicaid 300 a day paying patients to get the 1000 a day skilled nursing medicare patients. Nursing homes routinely dump people in the hospital...encouraging that would be very irresponsible...

...I don't think hospital dumping will be better.

Trump built three temporary hospitals. And they were completely unused under Cuomo. Just send them there.

Building a hospital is just the first part of the battle. There were nurses and healthcare workers being bused in from all across the country and they were still at max capacity. It doesn't do any good to have extra rooms if you've already exhausted all your nurses and doctors on the rooms you have, and there's semi-strict limits on the number of patients doctors and nurses can have since if they are a certain level of overburdened you might as well just not have a doctor at all.
