Had Jews waged multiple genocidal wars against Germany before the Holocaust, vowed to cleanse Germany of Germans "from the Alps to the North Sea", or perpetrated a massacre in which 13000 (1400*9 to account for the difference in population size) innocent civilians were torturted and slaughtered to death? No?!! Well, then this asinine comparison between Israel's current actions in Gaza and the Holocaust doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

My point is that the current Israeli campaign in Gaza is motivated by a legit case of self-defense. Hence, there can be no valid moral equivalence between this campaign and the unprovoked, premediated, cold-blooded genocide carried out by the Nazis during the holocaust.

Whether Israel is going too far in its campaign and causing an unjustifiably high level of collateral damage is a different - and more legit - question. But this talk about "are Israelis the new Nazis" can get the fuck out of here. As can the propaganda talking points about the ""genocide"" allegedly taking place in Gaza.

If the incidental death of civilians is unacceptable, and Hamas continues to drive ambulances, shoot missiles from schools, and place military targets within residential neighbourhoods, then what we're saying in effect is that Israel cannot legally or morally prosecute a war against Hamas in Gaza. And because we're simultaneously told that the blockade of Gaza is similarly unlawful, we're really saying that another October massacre is in Israel's near future and they cannot prevent it.

Now I think that's a losing argument, but the posters itt should argue in good faith and defend that argument if it's what they believe. The hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth over civilian deaths is pretty transparent cover for what they clearly believe.
