A couple million dollars can only pay like 2,000 people's rent for a single month. 28 million are facing evictions because of the Republican bungling of the Covid response.

Let's get more specific:

Average rent for a two bedroom is $1343: https://www.abodo.com/blog/2019-annual-rent-report/

Bernie made $1.1 million from his book, and his estimated net worth is $2 million: https://www.thestreet.com/lifestyle/bernie-sanders-net-worth-14678955

So he could "bail out" 1,489 American households for a single month, or 124 for a year while going completely broke.

Meanwhile, the $6 billion just included for weapons of war (which the DoD doesn't even want) could cover 4 million American households. The total military funding in the proposed Republican "Covid relief" bill is $21 billion. That could help nearly 16 million American households.

good he should start there then. and the military spending is absurd. tell you what we are saving money pulling troops out of Germany use that savings to pay people’s rent

I think that would be really tough to do. I think worst case scenario is that we pass Italy.

Asking someone to personally fund .0053% of people affected by the Republican economic failure is a stupid proposal.

But sure, we should close our military bases around the world, downsize the military massively, and stop spending billions on killing people and instead use it to improve the quality of life for millions.

no its not a stupid proposal to have a millionaire socialist politician lead by example and share the wealth. i’d love to skip having to fund my next housing payment and have it covered by the government, as would most of the people posting here

and i dont disagree on the latter

That's what i was thinking until i realize that it is mostly a problem of reacting quickly enough. Yet i think it's possible, and US gov leadership has a key role on that.
