Just hired a tech actually. She's pretty great. Probably gonna hire at least 2 more before the end of the year if I can keep finding ways to save money. In total since I started managing I've saved the lab ~35% of its operating budget. My PI is a rich boy who never learned the value of money. When I stepped into the position they didn't even have a spreadsheet to track spending, they weren't price comparing plastics, they weren't taking inventory, or anything. Really sad. I've easily paid for my entire salary at least twice over. To everybody who pays taxes, you're welcome. I'm making grant money go a lot further.

Monday I'm going to have to tell the grad students to stop bitching because we're going back to glass aspirating pipettes. They're ~7% the cost of plastic ones and that alone will save us about 10k a year.
