If you made a poll of Republican voters before the midterms and asked them if they identified themselves as "maga republicans", what percentage do you think would have said 'yes'?

Biden denounced the entire MAGA movement as a threat to democracy, rather than just those who are explicit election deniers.

i find the idea that there's much distinction laughable.

So, do you essentially agree with Biden's characterization that some 50% of Republican voters and some 25% of the country are a threat to democracy?

Maybe in another week... they'll admit that the Republicans won the House...

and there's the coded speech. dude says "its not most of the GOP, i work with them and continue to do so, but a minority of them are bad for democracy" and you get "if i dont vote for you you're saying i hate america".

again, he literally spoke to a group and defined it numerically, you're doubling or tripling that number to get offended if u dont listen.

i personally dont care about his maga this or that rhetoric. he will be muttering maga into his ice cream for the rest of his days.

now his “democracy is on the ballot if you dont vote for what i say you should vote for” goes completely against his “most of the GOP arent bad and i work with them” line

The 2022 midtermssaw lots of political novices on the GOP side crash and burn because they had insane or extreme ideas and an overfocus on relitigating the past/denying past or future election results. The GOP would be well-advised to run less Doug Mastriano's, Kari Lake's or Joe Kent's in the future. This does not, however, imply that the party should fully turn on its base voters and their priorities by embracing Cheney/Kinzinger/Romney types either.

If the party leadership doesn't want its "rabid, extreme" base to pick kooky candidates, they should work behind the scenes to find candidates who are acceptable to both the base and to swing voters.

Also, let's not forget that Democrats had been very actively messing with Republican primaries this cycle. Behind the scenes, they spent millions promoting they very election deniers in GOP primaries which they were labeling as "existential threats to democracy" in public. Unfortunately, it worked like a charm and Democrats were able to pick up all the races in which they had pushed deeply flawed Republican candidates to their party's nomination. The GOP base of course bears some blame for this too since they fell for the ruse and were all too happy to go with glaringly weak candidates. The whole party, from the rank and file up to the leadership, need to learn from their mistakes.

the senate didn’t flip in 2018. republicans managed to gain seats. there were several presidents who were not re-elected since 1932:

Truman (succeeded FDR so his first election was in 1948, did not seek re-election in 1952)
JFK (assassinated in 1963)
LBJ (succeeded JFK so his first election was in 1964, did not seek re-election in 1968)
Ford (succeeded Nixon, lost to Carter in his first election in 1976)
Carter (lost re-election to Nixon in 1980)
GHWB (lost re-election to William Jefferson Bythe III in 1992)

you really are not smart. a waste of lefty privilege you silly little odious ancient junior boomer warmongering bernout. “said_aoutia” inhaled too much huh what a sad pathetic useless net-negative on society existence you are lmfao, pathetic..

e: reported, btw

I should have worded it differently, I apologize for confusing you and causing such a tantrum.
Trump is the first to lose all three levers of power since Hoover in 1932. House, senate and not being reelected.
Only two elected potus' have run for and lost a second term.. Jimmy Carter and George hw Bush.

Hope thisn helps.

Very few presidents since 1932 actually had a trifecta at the start of their term, and even fewer had one which was based on razor-thin margins like the one Trump had in 2017. Also note that the GOP was in position to hold the Senate after 2020 if Trump hadn't blown the Georgia runoffs with his selfish antics.

Johnson was an elected president eligible for another term in 1968. He decided to not run because he was so deeply unpopular that he had basically no chance to even win renomination in his own party's primary, let alone win the general.
Also, let's not forget that Trump was well on his way to reelection before a once-in-a-century pandemic hit, shredded his strongest argument for reelection (the thriving economy) and shifted the focus of the race toward issues which are favorable for Democrats (healthcare, social safety nets, collectivist ethics).

I'll be shocked if the gop go with Trump again, all things considered. Capitol riots, numerous legal issues, love for Putin, etc....

So, let me get this straight, covid is why trump wasn't reelected, and Biden is the cause of inflation?

That's what republicans believe, right?
