The only thing mental is the people who think we should have any pause in the beating of the war drums of escalation because of fruity concerns like 'nuclear holocaust' or 'planetary obliteration'

There's a very real potential that top military leadership of NATO and/or the USA is reading this diablo 2 forum's political subforum right now and could be stirred into pushing their big red buttons at the instigation of a guy with an african garbed NPC avatar. There mere discussion of the potential outcomes of the Ukraine war and predicting its risks, could be grounds for a reader to engage in minor acts of mass genocidal disintegration. That's just connecting the dots, an imminent nexus.

All of those areas are too close to the European part of Russia and the wind would bring most of the fallout back to Russia. If they choose to strike they wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot. The easiest way to virtually cripple the west would be a strike against TSMC in Taiwan for example. Russians aren't "dumb" as portrayed here. There're lots of corrupt, high ranking criminals but not dumb or naive ones.

It obviously depends on weather patterns and yield, but even a 10 kt bomb is limited to about 10-20 miles downwind for lethal fallout and 40-50 miles for any danger, beyond that its barely detectable above the background radiation. They don't need to drop a tsar bomba 50 megaton device to get a message across, I'm pretty sure a practical nuke would be 'large enough to make a point, but not big enough to make folks in moscow hear it'. Kiev for example is 50 miles south of Belarus (and buffered by an uninhabited zone out another 50 miles) and 150-200 from Russia.

I'd say its not a good time to get too attached to any Ukrainian landmarks or historical sites
