Up to 10 weeks, an unborn 'baby' is an embryo. No nerve connections that can attribute any sense, in fact a fetus doesn't have any response to noxious stimuli until around 26 weeks. Physicians determined this after various pathological reports of spontaneous abortions proved that there was no laminar structure in the thalamus or cortex. Even in more conservative studies, rather smaller studies, most conclude that laminar structures don't appear until shortly after 20 weeks.
The reason SCOTUS is banning abortions is because technically abortion is a blind spot in the constitution because when it was written there were no abortions.
The real problem is that this country places their feelings in front of logic. We feel like a fetus is a baby, so we feel it necessary to defend the defenseless. But ultimately, we're defending the potential for human life, not human life.
The fetus isn't potential human life. It *is* human life. I think you meant to say that it's a potential person.
That said, I believe in cases of rape, the woman should be able to have an abortion. We don't want to let rapists pass on their genes.
