It's like I said, I don't doubt literally everyone. I trust people who that I have known personally. People who I have judged to be trustworthy. Everybody else I am on guard for.

Based on your logic, even if I did know them personally, the possibility of lying would still exist. Personally, I'm not equipped to go through the methodology of each hospital in the country to see if the numbers are accurate. There WILL be some fuckups but it should be minor and wouldn't affect the numbers substantially. Anyway, in order for the world to FUNCTION you simply have to trust the people who ARE equipped to do these things. If we didn't, we'd still live like cavemen.

How do you know you don't like in a Truman show style reality and the entire world tunes in every night to laugh at your idiocy? All your friends and family are faking enjoying your company and actually detest you. How do you know?

I don't think trusting people blindly is what got us out of the stone age.

But anyway, you have a point. In order for the society to function, we have to trust someone. And that's where the problem lies. Some people use this unique psychological feature to lie to and mislead us.

I don't know. But I have to trust someone. And trusting my family and friends is better than trusting government officials and TV executives, whom I don't know personally.

Do you trust your doctor? What about your dentist? Do you trust your dentist more than your family to look at your teeth?

Yes.

But government officials and TV executives are not on par with specialists like dentists and doctors. And even with the professionals in my life, if someone can truly prove that they are not trustworthy in some way, I am willing to listen.

You're far more likely to suffer a violent attack or fraud from a friend or family member than a stranger. The vast majority of rapes and murders are committed by someone the victim knew and was close with.



The government officials tallying up and releasing covid stats are all specialists like doctors.

And government officials and TV executives can harm you just as well, only in different ways.

This is why expertise is a thing. You can generally trust people who are experts in a field to give you the most reasonable interpretation.

It's not fool-proof, the more politically involved things are the more corruption there is, but generally they're going to give you the best conclusions based on the information available.

So, for instance, nobody at any level wanted Covid to exist. Covid was a giant wrench in the world's economy and totally screwed up a lot of things. So when they come out and say Covid is real and a problem, you can trust they are being truthful because it's not good for anybody that Covid exists.
