This guy has been in politics for more than 5 decades and most likely wants to give it another shot, he actually said that Trump running would motivate him to run in 2024.

I don't think most people are or were under any pretense that Trump is flawless. The principles he seized upon to win the 2016 election? Yes, damn near flawless. A lot of people are tired of being dicked around by illegitimate external forces that despise the American public. Even if you were under the imrpession that Trump wasn't going to actually "do" what he promised, it was still vitally important to send the message - this is how badly the establishment fucked up, we elected a guy who is essentially a middle finger or a wrecking ball, because we tried playing nice, so now, just go scorched earth. That's why I voted for him, anyway.

Most lefties still seem to be under the impression that "Right wing" means pro war, pro corporation, free trade, when it's shifted so dramatically in another direction. I did attempt to enlighten them in another thread as to these shifts in what the right wing largely believes but they weren't able to grasp a bit of it.
