I disagree. Just because an ideal is not reachable doesn't mean the pursuit of that ideal is without merit. America has become increasingly divided the last couple decades, dangerously so the last few years. A responsible president should attempt to heal some of those divisions. That said, unity is one competing interest among many. Policy goals and telling the truth might not always be unifying for the country. I'm sure the nutjobs at Fox News would call it unifying for Biden to have a speech sympathizing with the delusions of the Trump cult as it relates to the election, but that would be a mistake for Biden, because the truth fucking matters.

Zero.

Of course that's a ridiculous standard for not calling something an "insurrection". People use terms colloquially all the time that might be in the criminal code, but we don't go around saying, "akshully this action doesn't meet all the elements for a charge in the criminal code, so you can't use that word".

Based on the standard definition of insurrection, Jan. 6th was an insurrection.
