Depends on the skill. You need lab experience for science for example. For computers you can self teach. I know a programmer that is entirely self taught who hasnt had an issue getting decent paying jobs.

I guess.

Anyway let's not get sidetracked. My point (as well as that other guy's) is that nowadays a bachelor's is not what it used to be. Note I didn't say it's completely useless. Just that it's often not sufficient by itself to land a "dream job" for most young graduates.

I mean, your degree is in science, so it's probably different. But try having a degree in political science or gender studies. Like I literally cannot imagine what types of work they would be suited for. I mean yea I guess you can say they can still find jobs, but I will bet that they could have still gotten those jobs without their degree.

Probably not. Lots of places want degrees as a matter of course

Bachelors degrees mean almost nothing unless you go to a top 20 school now, its sad. You might as well just spend 10% as much and get an associate.

Personally I wish I had either gone into a trade school, or a community college. Anything that would grant me a license so I could make a decent living. And then once I had made enough money to have a family, then I would go to a university and this time around I could afford to take courses that I genuinely enjoy.

Of course, if I told this to myself when I was 17, I would not have listened. All I knew is that I had to go to a university.

Yea, most of us have regrets because we were told lies growing up. The rush to put women in a university makes even less sense.

Your boyfriends look at you with 100k$ in debt and run away for other women.

And women spend 10% of their lives pregnant so they will never be employed at the same rate as men, especially in the high paying fields. Its an unfortunate result of the natural state of our biology.

Women are fortunate in that they dont have to work though, but our culture programs them to work because politicians want more consumption and tax revenue.

The vast majority of well paying jobs require a university degree or higher. And unless you're trying to get into a relatively prestigious career line (e.g. investment banking) right out of school, they really don't require that you have either extensive experience or that you've gone to a top 20 school.

indeed

2 years community college 2 years state school is the “best path” costwise now. after that (ie: masters, doctorates, etc.) people are on their own sadly but that’s how it goes.

proper and straightforward tertiary education should be the focus for our young people. almost every other first world nation plus China and India treat it this way. but our government managed to fuck up the costs permanently, unfortunately

60% of the graduates end up unemployed. The supply of degrees is higher than the demand. My analysis is correct and yours is wrong.
