There's a large portion of America that wants to disenfranchise the other side. There are people on the left who want to completely silence the right and vice versa. Until the electorate can coexist with others who have differing viewpoints, we're going to continue having a polarized government.
Government and media are hoof in hoof. Take a look at all the major networks, and who they employ who previously worked in the government. Look at who's in the government right now who previously worked in the media.
It's not the "people" who are the enemy of the "governement". Instead, it's those who're in power or expect one day to be in power again who stoke divisions and disenfranchisement. The level of "unpersoning" that is being seen is unprecedented in America since the Civil War. And it's primarily driven by one side. This was not the case 2016-2020. All the "unpersoning" was still left against right, with the left running defense for black bloc communists and racial rioters.
Let's not split hairs here, the right just wants to sit down and talk about ideas. The left wants to see the right eradicated and/or expelled from society, and openly refers to them as vermin. And hilariously, those who were previously "of the left" are now considered not merely right, but far right, no matter how liberal their views.
It's typical fascist/communist revolution in action. We'll see if it's halted, or if the United States as we've known it for centuries ceases to exist, and becomes yet another victory for Nazi/Stalin/Mao ideology.
