Wendy's (and ALL fast food restaurants in my town) have signs at the drive thru that they start at 15$/hour.

the 15$ fast food min wage has been achieved, although not by the means people asked for.

its almost like the free market is better than government intervention afterall :P

Honestly if we would get the government out of involvement between businesses and unions (right to work, 1 union per workplace [thanks Santara]) and we prosecuted businesses that use violence and illegal tactics against them, I would agree.

I hope that in the future the fake libertarians and neo-liberals realize how fake they are and realize unions negotiating with businesses is the free market.

People are tired of being ripped off under threat of homelessness or starvation.

Most places don't pay their employees enough.

Billionaires are actually the villains of the American story. They run billion dollar operations, pay themselves millions a year plus benefits, and want their employees to have the least amount of their labor returned as possible with shitty benefits. They are the actual bad guys, who could consider someone like Jeff Bezos anything but evil? He is going to get a 10B handout from the US government but people paying can't get a living wage? Gtfo

The government that subsidized FF wages through welfare for so long?

Without government intervention there is no private property, and I can just shoot you in the face and take your gold for example, so it's a matter of degrees.

ive always been pro union in the private section, anti in the public sector. i dont see a logical reason to be anti private unions. its just idiots parroting what their boss told them about getting fired if they unionize.

Public unions should be allowed, but I do think the government should be able to negotiate with multiple unions if there are more than one. Competition!

However, I think there should also be limits on what they can negotiate for. I can't for the life of me figure out why a police union can negotiate to modify the legal process for its officers, things like giving them extra time to come up with a consistent statement if they are accused of a crime. That is the part that is utter bullshit and should be blatantly unconstitutional under equal protections.

the problem is every sector is unified, and if govts were allowed to negotiate with multiple unions that just means they can prop up the cheapest negotiating union even if it ignores the majority.

i cant think of a sector that would truly compete, why wouldnt you as a public works sector chose a union that wont fight for the most pay, the best benefits, etc.

if a fast food union strikes people make their own food, or go to a non strike restaurant. if teachers strike there's no alternative. worse yet is the prison guards union, there's zero recourse for the govt against them. they can not be allowed to strike or we risk mass public safety with scab guards possibly allowing mass breakouts, its a mess. why let a union hold the taxpayer for ransom with zero recourse? instead we should have independent arbitrators, most negotiations go to arbitration anyways in most of the public sectors.

If they are truly that valuable, that all of society depends on them and them leaving results in anarchy, then maybe we should, as a society, reevaluate the pay and benefits for those workers so they don't want to strike.

Seems like exactly what we want unions to do. Strike, show everybody they're incredibly valuable, give it to the demands. If they aren't that valuable, then go a little bit without and replace them.

If your union is trying to get higher pay, and the state says no, and there's another union of teachers with spare capacity that can step in, then maybe kick your union leaders to the curb for losing you money.
