Fukushima was also designed to resist earthquakes in the region. Probably more so than the German facilities. So we'll actually have to see the report.

In general I'd say it was more of a populist move to close then over that incident, than a realistic risk and benefits analysis. reported casualties of Fukushima is... one.. Quite a few less than building windfarms. But then again, casualties =/= damage to the land/sea mass ^^.

Fukushima did withstand the earthquake. What was on no one's radar is that a 15 meter high tsunami, triggered by an hugeass earthquake on the ground of the ocean, could hit the facility minutes after its structures were softened up by this earthquake.

Anyway, our Dutch friends clearly need to fear a rising sea level more than earthquakes or tsunamis. ;)

it's a dishonest and silly argument to begin with. literally no one suggested we have the same frequency or magnitude of earthquakes as japan, all i said that blackx claims about earthquakes being NO danger for our facilities was wrong. in fact, i have explicitly stated that i personally think abandoning nuclear power was premature.

FACT is, however, that one of our nuclear power plants was shut down long before the fukushima incident happened because it was built in an earthquake prone area, while others (like neckarwestheim) have other geological vulnerabilities - not according to me or some radical opponent of nuclear energy, but according to findings by expert commissions. so the whole strawmanning around how earthquakes in germany are not a threat is complete bs and literal fake news.

Threat accepted, we're still on the same page that quite a few were closed prematurely. Think that's the middle ground we all agree with?

Last debate was just on. Just my impressions:

Disappointments: Ploumen (PvdA), Hoekstra (CDA), Klaver (GroenLinks),

Strong performances: Marijnissen (SP), Kaag (D66), Wilders (PVV), Segers (CU)

Other news:

-A girl posted a selfie on Instagram that she's counting votes and a joke that she'll tear up PVV/FvD votes. Incredibly dumb joke, and now she's gotten doxxed by Baudet (FvD leader). Wouldn't be surprised if she's under police protection right now.

-There were issues with postal votes (normally doesn't happen, introduced for boomers 70 and older). Boomers didn't follow instructions and votes were thrown out. The postal ballot needs to be put into a separate envelope to the autographed voting pass. Lots of boomers didn't manage to do that, and just put their ballot in the same envelope as their voting pass. This complicates the ballots' secrecy. Now there has been an emergency measure, to do count those ballots as long as they have not been unfolded. I'm not a fan of this imo.

-Latest polling:

D66 has been on the rise, Kaag has had very good performances, she's been gobbling up VVD/GL votes, especially after she's managed to put Rutte in his place on a few issues. I'm leaning D66 right now, though I'll probably vote on either someone educated in beta fields or someone digitally capable (competency of our national politics with digital issues is laughable).

Actually doing it is pretty much impossible without people noticing.

On a different note, just voted before work. Hopefully I will have helped push D66 ahead of the CDA.

Exit polls:

D66 way up. With these results a three-party coalition would be possible (VVD+D66+CDA).

Also rip left wing. They really failed to capitalize on the oppurtunity, with weak performances by their leaders.

compared to the exit polls, it seems as if there was significant late movement from CDA, PvdA and SP toward D66.

D66 voters will most likely not have come from SP or CDA but PvdA and GL. CDA/SP voters would more likely go for FvD/JA21/PVV.
