to be fair there were years of "Trump did a thing" posts, each individual issue, that was also already being talked about in the trump 2020 main thread.

the bigger issue here is people NEED to make their own thread for validation. we could secter off PARD into a gun thread, healthcare thread, crime thread, immigration thread, etc. and if kept in those bounds it would be a much better place. but, obligatory:

This forum seriously lacks moderation

This response is bewildering.

I said that Iran is a dangerous country that shouldn't have nuclear weapons. That's why we made the deal. We don't make arms control deals with our friends... we make them with our enemies.

So, our deal with Iran to limit their nuclear advancement is about stifling their weapons program. And the other malign activities from Iran might continue on after this deal, because the most important thing is limiting the nuclear program.

I don't see how this deal aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon means we can't hold them accountable on other issues. We can maintain this deal while combatting Iran's other malign activities.

This response is bewildering.

To the first point, we have already discussed how the deal does not meaningfully restrict Iran's ability to acquire nuclear weapons.

To the second point, the deal actively provided Iran with the financial resources with which to conduct those malign activities. It led directly to the marginalization of Iraqi Sunnis, the chaos in Syria, and Saudi intervention in Yemen. We cannot pretend that these are unrelated, or that we can have our cake and eat it too.

I don't agree that it doesn't meaningfully restrict Iran's ability to get nukes.

Iran's mischief in Iraq, the Syrian civil war, and the Yemen civil war all started before the JCPOA was ever signed. You're simply attributing malign actions from Iran that were pre-existing to a deal you don't like.

I hate everything Democrats touch, love everything Trump does, and will never criticize a Republican.

but I'm a libertarian.

I was initially optimistic about the timeline for stimulus. We're way past a reasonable time frame now. If the bill still had something big in it outside of stimulus and Covid spending, like a big minimum wage hike and tying it to inflation then I'd gladly forgive taking an extra two weeks. But everything else has been dropped, and they're not even upholding the 2k. So as far as I'm concerned they're late and underpaying.

The Senate has had to deal with confirmations and impeachment... and it's a 1.9 trillion dollar bill. I'm thinking less than 2 months is completely reasonable.

The only reason I think it's taking too long is because there has been basically no Republican input and they have the votes to get it through all the committees. They should have had this worked out with all the relevant groups and committees so it could have passed in the minimum time. If they were debating with Republicans and whatnot then I understand why it takes longer.

2 months is still way better than anything the last administration did. Regardless of if things are getting done as quickly as I'd like, it's nice having adults running the show.

Trump got his covid relief bill through Congress in less than 2 months. Just sayin'...

By the way, one major reason why it takes Dems so long to pass this is because they did NOT have the votes for their initial draft of the bill.

Sure, but arent UI payments running out in mid-March if they dont pass the stimulus by then? That would be a gigantic disaster given the state of the economy.

Both parties were on board with the first bill. The second bill took several months and delivered basically nothing.

If Republicans would have made a real effort this probably would have been passed already.
