Hitler didn’t overthrow a legitimate election and neither did Trump. Hitler sent ten million people to be de-humanized, tortured and killed in concentration camps, he tore families apart and murdered two million children. And he started a war to try to take over the world and cleanse it of people he considered genetically inferior. That war killed about 100m people. Trump posted some things on twitter that you consider objectionable. Obviously that’s not really the same fucking thing. When I say obviously though I assume a certain capacity for reasonable thinking which seems to be missing in most people.

Yes, I take into account Hitler’s atrocities any time his name is brought up—as does everyone else. The only reason you know his name is because of the atrocities and the only reason you or anyone else use that name in these political comparisons is to weaponize those atrocities against people who are completely innocent of them.

If I said “Asking for Stephen King’s autograph is like asking for Hitler’s autograph” you wouldn’t assume that I just meant that they’re both authors and wasn’t implying that Stephen King is a genocidal Nazi. That’s fucking ridiculous. Everyone knows exactly what you mean when you compare someone to Hitler.
