The only reason youtube hasnt gone out of business yet is rampant monopoly practices.
It blows my mind when I think of how much money they sacrifice by deplatforming the best content
this is beyond silly.
even if principled adults used some other more free speech friendly service and Youtube didnt have monopolistic tendencies kids would still hold Youtube up above competitors.
kids dont give a fuck about free speech, censorship, etc. and kids and kid content creators dont want to shift to another platform unless the pay elsewhere was massively worth it.
and in any case any "free speech" provider would still need to invest millions upon millions into removal of copyrighted material and heavily police monetizing content to ensure users dont get paid for videos that include copy right material. elsewise that new platform gets sued into pieces in no time flat. youtube used to allow users to put backing tracks of songs to things like montages and combo videos for video games, then almost got sued into the ground. and had to spend millions and completely change their system to allow copystrikes, which then caused a bevy of other issues with users abusing it to fuck over other creators.
even if u take any and all monopolizing strategies out of it a new video hosting platform would require an insane amount of money to develop and grow. we're likely talking many hundreds of millions here. it would be cash flow negative for decades. and by extension wouldnt be able to pay content creators enough to leave youtube.
