The results of the poll largely reflect the demographics of Reddit rather than anything about socialism.

libertarian socialism is basically synonymous with anarchism.

As i spend more time on the socialist parts of reddit (gotta kill time somehow in this quarantine) i gotta ask why there are so many privileged white kids with a fondness for mao, stalin etc when they are living comfortably in the west 🤔

those figures acted out the violent tendencies and desires the pale pasty privileged kids have because of some misfortune their parents gave them during their youth (something along the lines of they only got a 3-series bmw as their first car). hence the fondess of maniacally bloodthirsty far-left commie dictators

It's a coping mechanism. They subconsciously know how privileged they are and that they themselves didnt do anything to deserve it. So they try to turn into "good guys" or to "earn" their riches by (pretending to be) fighting for the poor and oppressed.

An alternative explanation is that it is their form of rebelling against the existing order/the world their parents and grandparents created. Previous generations of young people had plenty of actual racism/sexism/discrimination/violence/intolerance to rebel against. Today's kids, particularly privileged white middle-class ones, are growing up in the most tolerant, open-minded and free world in human history, so they have to come up with increasingly intricate and subtle forms of discrimination and exploitation to justify their rebellious phase.

It's the job of young people to push boundaries and test ideas that aren't currently accepted. Youthful rebellion is a necessary part of a country because it allows the country to sample new ideas that older generations rejected. As circumstances change things that were alien or unfeasible in the time of the older generation may become feasible.

Over time they mellow out, assimilate what ideas they can into the current system, and the next generation does the same.



They are also one of the first generations in like 70 years to grow up in worse economic conditions than their parents, and it's largely a result of their parents not being willing to put in the same amount of investment as their parents did. The greatest generation tolerated very high tax rates, ridiculous rates of public investment, and sacrificed for the greater good through the setting up of welfare systems and fighting world wars. The boomer generation was simply unwilling to make sacrifice for the greater good and cut a ton of programs that were making great strides for the country as a whole. Boomers are going to be a stain on America's history as the generation that was unwilling to sacrifice for the greater good and destroyed a bunch of great systems as a result.

I think it's more an urge to be rebellious. Quite a lot of people are fed up with capitalism these days, and since they can't avoid having a black-or-white view of the world, they inevitably resort to thinking that communism will save the day.



You shouldn't bother. InsaneBobb is so preoccupied with looking for disagreement, that he writes walls of texts refuting points that nobody even brought up before him. Responding to his posts is just as much a waste of time as reading them is.
Excellence, on the other hand, just enjoys praising anyone who bashes leftists. I cannot remember him ever writing a post that contained arguments derived from facts/logic.

Lack of purpose, low testosterone, and poor or non-existent education in critical thinking, history, and economics. Years spent in an echo chamber that grades the quality of a post on popularity can't have helped.
