Which is why it's even more important to put ideology aside for the sake of what will produce the best results.

If they had something like "Increase access to healthcare, ensure economic prosperity, etc." and then figured out that conservative principles were the best ways to do that, then sure, we can have that discussion, but when you assume your conclusion before you even start then your analysis is worthless. You're going to end up shoving a lot of square blocks into round holes.

Anyway, that's why I don't value thinktanks much. They assume their conclusions before doing the analysis and then come up with the conclusion that the policy they said they were trying to support in their mission statement is the best policy. Shocker!

That's a subjective position to take in the first place, because values are used that weigh and judge multiple factors.

Which is why your mission statement should be goal oriented ;)

"to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense" isn't a goal?

As far as goal setting goes. It’s not very measurable. There is not enough definition

No, it's not lol. Goals need to be measurable, and none of those are measurable metrics.

At best you could say they are poorly defined goals, which is why I prioritize metric based mission statements over ideological ones.

Anyway, I think I've explained myself on this well enough. I don't trust organizations that assume their conclusions before doing their analysis. Think tanks are far too ideologically driven to produce trustable results. When somebody sets out to prove conservative policies are best then all of their analysis will come back saying conservative policies are best even in cases where they obviously are not. The same goes for a liberal think tank.

I'll leave you with a big glaring contradiction in their mission statement. They want individual freedom and traditional american values, but traditional american values do not include civil rights, rights of gay people, etc. which is antithetical to individual freedom. This would be easy to catch if they didn't have a poorly defined, ideologically based mission statement.
