... Even in peaciful Muslim nations, the minority religious sects are oppressed. ... The west isn't responsible for this savagery.

not long ago (~120 years) minority christian sects were oppressed by the majority christian sect in many countries and full co-existence is still not everywhere achieved - also don't forget that during the disintegration of yugoslavia (~25 years ago) the warlords used not only ethnic lines but also religious (between christian sects) to incite the masses - plus look at the recent history of africa, christian militias and sects/cults have been responsible for a lot of savagery there, but where there is no commercial/strategic interest the media coverage becomes very thin

the responsibility of the western countries for the creation of the current situation cannot be understated, colonial powers impoverished countries and where there was progress it has often been undermined - just look at the cia's and mi6's role at overthrowing mosaddegh in iran and finally the rise of the taliban in afghanistan

so i have on the one hand to agree that the west is not directly responsible for the acts committed by da'esh and the other radical fundamentalist groups but on the other hand the west has to take a lot of the blame for creating the 'fertile ground' for those groups and in some cases for the establishment of those groups themselves
